Diabetes

The National Diabetes Association reports about 215,000 people younger than 20 years have diabetes—type 1 or type 2. Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure, non-traumatic lower-limb amputations, and new cases of blindness among adults in the United States and is a major cause of heart disease and stroke. Diabetes also is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.  According to the Diabetes Coalition of Long Island, 66,000 people on Long Island have diabetes and don’t even know it.

The Diabetes Coalition of Long Island can help families with diabetic concerns.  Contact them at www.longislanddiabetes.org.
